How to Shave Your Genitals (male)

How to Shave Your Genitals (male)

from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit

Do you know how to shave down there? Is it bothering you to a point where you need to? Well now you can. Read on..

Steps

  1. Buy a beard or hair trimmer and trim the pubic area to the desired length
  2. Take a hot shower. This will loosen the skin and make the hair easier to shave.
  3. Lather the area with shaving cream intended for sensitive skin. Avoid menthol or heavily scented creams as they will irritate the area.
  4. Using a new 3 or 4 bladed razor, shave each area using short very light strokes.
    • Pulling the penis downward shave from the top of the penis upward to the navel.
    • Most of the hair growing between the penis and the stomach grow downward. Holding the penis downward and in the opposite direction of the area you are going the shave, shave using upward motions.
    • Holding the penis to the side, shave inwards in the sides of it and in the sides of the scrotum.
    • Holding the penis upward, shave downwards carefully from the penis to the lower part of the scrotum.
    • The scrotum is extremely easier to shave if the skin is extended. The scrotum should be shaved from the middle front part of it, to the sides, with extreme care.

  5. Rinse off and wash area using mild soap.
  6. If you do not shave often or this is your first time, use some antiseptic cream to counteract skin irritations and pimples.
  7. if you use the edge of a toilet seat to sit on, letting your pubic area sit over a garbage can while shaving, the mess will be next to nothing to clean up.

Video

Learn how to best shave your groin and genitals area (for men) with this animated step-by-step shaving and grooming tutorial from Gillette Fusion.

Tips

  • If you are shaving the first or second time it will most likely irritate the skin, once the hair starts growing back! This can lead to slight physical discomfort as well as visible marks! The area will get red and you can easily develop pimples a day after or so. This will be gone within a week roughly and once you start shaving more often it will stop. So if you are keen on showing off your shaved parts, do it within 24 hours or wait a week. Any sweating, body contact and poor hygiene will increase the likelihood of irritations/pimples.
  • Notice that most men do not shave all the hair off. Shave penis and scrotum, cut short the hair in your pubic area, up to the navel and on your behind, maybe also on the inner upper side of your legs. Then go ahead and trim the pubic hair up to the naval on the sides. An edgy form or a rounded form is a matter of preference.
  • You can let the hair grow without problems and simply shave the penis before getting into action. Cut/trim the other parts all one or two weeks.
  • It should be easier to shave while the penis is erected, since the skin will be more extended and the penis is easier to handle. (You may need to stimulate your self slightly) Using KY jelly or lubricant is sometimes better than shaving cream - but make SURE you rinse each razor stroke carefully.
  • Using a beard trimmer will work better than scissors and it will cut the hair really short.
  • If you use a clipper make sure you use a 00000 blade on it, if you do it will cut almost as close as a razor blade.
  • By shaving at the start of the shower, you will let any cuts close themselves and thus avoid any stains in your clothes.
  • If you first shave in the direction the hair is growing, you will shorten most of it. Then shaving in the opposite direction will be easier.
  • Watch for the direction the hair is growing, the final shaving should be done in the opposite direction.
  • The first times it should be somewhat difficult and even you could produce some cuts. Don't alarm, just clean well and eventually the skin will become accustomed and more resistant (and yourself, or the shaver, more experienced to avoid such situations).
  • Consider shaving sitting in a very shallow hot bath. The hot water in the bath will prepare the area for shaving better than showering. Your body will be very stable (you are sitting down) and your genitals are very accessible. You also have a handy source of water in which to rinse the razor. If this is not possible consider shaving sitting down, ideally on the floor for ease of access and stability.
  • When you start to break out (because you will) try rubbing diaper rash cream on it.
  • Ensure the room you are using for shaving will be private for at least an hour (or however long you think the process will take). Consider shaving late at night. Also remember to clean the area afterwords as to avoid any unwanted suspicions.

Warnings

  • Only shave when in the right mind. Never shave while inebriated as you will end up regretting all the cuts in the morning more than the hangover.
  • The itching, oh the itching! Once the hair starts to grow back it itches like crazy. You either have to shave again or put up with the itching. Once you have shaved a few times the skin becomes used to the treatment and usually the itching subsides. A small amount of lotion can prevent itching.
  • Don't shave before exercising. Not only will the sweat irritate the area, but the friction from running or other movement will irritate the area as well.
  • Salt on an open wound hurts, so too does sweat on a recently shaved scrotum. Its a mild sting but be ready for it.
  • Watch for any painful bumps on your skin after shaving. This is probably an ingrown hair. It is nothing to worry about but should be examined by a doctor to prevent infection and to be sure it isn't an STD.
  • Avoid using a men's electric razor, especially on the scrotum. the skin of the scrotum is so thin and loose that it can be caught by the shaver, and this is extremely painful. Additionally, avoid shaving down the center of the underside of the penis and on the center of the scrotum if for some reason you still feel you should use a men's electric razor, as it will cut the grundel, which is also extremely painful. It is best to shave when the scrotum is ascended - meaning tight against the body.
  • Men should avoid using products like NAIR and other bikini area hair removal due to sensitivity of the scrotal area.
  • Do NOT use a straight razor for obvious reasons.

How to Exfoliate Your Body for Soft Skin

from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit

Exfoliate your dead, rough skin with your own very inexpensive body scrub. Your skin will be soft, touchable and glowing!

Steps

Method 1
  1. Before you bathe or shower, squeeze small amount of body scrub into palm. Apply to your skin and massage in circular motion.
  2. Start at your ankles and work your way up, using a loofah mitt or exfoliating gloves.
  3. Rinse.
  4. Apply body lotion right after your shower, to keep the moisture in.
Method 2
  1. Take a loofah or mesh puff and squeeze a small amount of body wash or shower gel.
  2. Rub all over body and rinse.
  3. Use body lotion.
Method 3
  1. Get a cupful of wet sand.
  2. Massage all over your body and rinse.

Tips

  • This will not only exfoliate your dead, flaky skin, but it also stimulate your circulation. That's why we start at the ankles.
  • Using a loofah or something similar will add to the benefits of exfoliation.
  • For extra exfoliation, when washing towels, don't use fabric softener and when drying off, rub the towel gently in circular movements all over your body.
  • As an alternate, you can use a natural bristle brush with no products. Places to focus on: back of arms and thighs. It's called dry skin brushing and it feels great.

Warnings

  • It is not recommended to use body exfoliator on your face, as it is too abrasive.

Things You'll Need

  • Exfoliating body scrub
  • Loofah
  • Towel
  • Moisturising body lotion
  • natural bristle brush

How To "Brazilian Wax" (Or, What to Expect When You Sign Up to Get One)

Naomi Torres from About.com says "Brazilian bikini waxes were introduced to New York in 1987 by seven Brazilian-born sisters and remains a popular hair removal method in the US.

The "Brazilian" differs from a regular bikini wax because hair is removed in the front, back and everything in between. Most of the time a "landing strip" is left in the front, but some clients opt for everything removed."

Remove an Ingrown Hair - wikiHow

from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit

An ingrown hair is a hair that curls back on itself and starts growing back into the follicle, or a hair that fails to grow out of the follicle and stays embedded in the skin. Ingrown hairs are usually just minor irritations, but they can be painful and unsightly. What's more, if they are left untreated ingrown hairs can become infected. Unfortunately, while ingrown hair is more common with people having curly hair, almost everybody will get one at some time, and if you shave regularly, you may have to deal with ingrown hairs quite frequently. Got one now? Follow these instructions to get rid of it and to keep that little pain in the neck (or face, or leg) from coming back.

Steps

  1. Exfoliate the area. Twice a day, scrub the ingrown hair gently. This will help to remove any dead skin cells, dirt, and oils that might be trapping the ingrown hair. It can also physically nudge the tip of the hair out of your skin. You want to exfoliate enough to achieve this effect, but not so much that the ingrown hair starts to bleed. It's very difficult to remove an ingrown hair from under a scab. When in doubt, exfoliate more gently, but for a longer period of time. Try to hit the ingrown hair from a variety of directions. Use an exfoliating glove, or try one of the following:

  2. Apply a dab of acne medication. Ingrown hairs are pretty similar to pimples, especially when the ingrown hair is accompanied by pus. Apply benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid several times a day for a few days. This, combined with daily exfoliation, is often enough to remove the ingrown hair, since swelling will be reduced, giving the hair more room to grow out (rather than in). If you don't have acne medication on hand, you can try these:

  3. Apply a warm, moist compress to the area for a few minutes to soften the skin. Just wet a washcloth with hot water, wring it out, and press it against the ingrown hair. When the washcloth cools down, run it under hot water again. If you can see the ingrown hair embedded in the skin, this treatment will soften the hair and bring it closer to the surface. If you can't initially see the hair, leave the warm compress on until it rises to the skin's surface. If you apply the compress for ten minutes and you still can't see any sign of hair, you're not going to be able to remove it yourself, or it might be something else altogether. And while you're fretting over your skin, this might be a good time to Check for Skin Cancer.

  4. Use a sterile needle or tweezers to gently tease the hair out of the skin. The warm compress should have brought the hair to the surface--don't dig for the hair if you can't easily get at it. Don't pluck the hair out completely if you can avoid doing so; just make sure that the ingrown end is out of the skin. It may take a little time to coax the hair out: be patient, and do not cut the skin.

    • Sometimes you'll see a loop of the hair close to the surface of the skin. This means that the tip of the hair has begun growing down into the skin. If you get a needle in the loop and tug lightly, the end will often come loose.
    • If you choose to use tweezers, remember that tweezers can be bought either pointy, or flat tipped. A pointy tipped pair may cause less damage to the skin around the hair if used carefully.

  5. Wash the area around the (formerly) ingrown hair with warm water and a moisturizing soap. Apply an antiseptic to provide extra protection against infection. Avoid wearing tight clothing on that area, and exfoliate regularly to prevent new ingrown hairs.

Tips

  • If you can't see the hair initially, leave the warm, moist compress in place for a while longer.
  • You can sterilize your tools by boiling, or by cleaning with alcohol.
  • The longer the hair, the less likely it is to curl back into the skin, so try shaving less closely by using a single-blade razor or electric shaver instead of a multi-blade razor.
  • Use a non-comedogenic moisturizer on any area prone to ingrown hairs. Non-comedogenic products don't clog pores.

Warnings

  • If the inflammation extends beyond the immediate area of the hair follicle or persists for more than a few days after the hair has been freed, consider visiting a dermatologist or your primary care physician.

Things You'll Need

  • Clean washcloth and warm water
  • Sterile needle-nose tweezers or a small needle
  • Topical antiseptic
  • Moisturizer or moisturizing lotion

Shaving For Men - Should I Shave My Pubic Hair?

To shave or not to shave, that is the question. In these enlightened times, male grooming and shaving for men is becoming increasingly popular. The famous sack, crack and back wax is a well known treatment at wax bars up and down the country. So should you shave your pubic hair? There are many questions that might spring to mind. What are the benefits? What are the risks? Does it hurt? What is the best method?

Women have been shaving the lady gardens for years, and the bikini wax, Hollywood, and Brazilian all part of the on going maintenance women put themselves through to keep looking good when things get personal. And now the tables are turning, if the women are expected to attend to constant topiary of their bits - why not the men? And so shaving for men is becoming commonplace.

There are numerous reasons why you might want to shave your pubic hair. As suggested earlier, request and expectation from a partner maybe one. Another is hygiene as there is an argument that it keeps things hygienic and fresh. One of the upsides, and this might just be the clincher, is it gives the appearance of making your manhood look an inch larger, and that can't be bad for the self esteem.

So should you make the leap? First of all, remember women are from Venus and men from mars, and shaving the pubic hair is a very different experience for men. Secondly, we are all very different and hair growth varies person from person. So some of us will stay smoother longer than others. Once you make the decision, it is an on going commitment to maintain.

In later blogs I explore the best methods, shaving for men options, wax, razors for men and special shavers for men.

Show Off Your Stuff With Micro Bikinis

Show Off Your Stuff With Micro Bikinis
By Jay Chang

Just as the bikini era is growing, a new type of bikini is being released to the market: micro bikinis. How can these skimpy pieces of clothing get any tinier? Designers have made bikinis more like strings than pieces of cloth, giving its wearer a sexier look.

This does mean that your nipples, buttocks, and crotch area will be visible. If you have the body shape and daring sense of adventure for them, try one on and walk around the beach with your new micro bikini. See what types of looks you get from other average bikini wearers.

As if these bikinis couldn't be any more exposing, they've created special micro bikinis that can be seen through when looking at the person who's wearing it at the right angle. Some of these bikinis also fully expose the body, causing a lot of controversy on whether or not people should be wearing them in public areas. However, if you want to show off your stuff, these types of bikinis are the right swimwear for you.

There are also many exotic forms of micro bikinis and many different designs. Some have multiple strap designs and jewels embedded in them. The tops come in either diamond shape or teardrop shape as well.

This particular type of bikini also reduces the size of tan lines and are often more comfortable to wear than normal bikinis. This is mainly due to the fact that your body gets to be "let loose" when wearing one.

So enjoy your time in the sun by wearing micro bikinis! This may also give you an incentive to trim your thighs down so you can get those "she's/he's gorgeous" looks from average bikini bums.

Check out http://sexybikinishoppe.com for your next bikini purchase!

Choosing Intimate Clothing - Know Your Limits

When looking for a corset one factor which must be taken into account is your personal comfort level. Some women are extremely comfortable with their bodies and have no problem showing a lot off. For these women there are not as many lingerie selections as one might suspect. Other women prefer a more conservative type of lingerie which offers them the ability to look sexy without showing off too much.

The corset is often a great option for many women. It has the ability to exemplify a women's natural beauty by offering a natural slimming effect and a natural lift to the front bust. The level of sexiness which applies to each individual corset is determined by how much the corset reveals and how much it exemplifies the women's natural beauty through the use of boning and slimming techniques.

For the woman comfortable with her body and who likes to be looked at, the Kitty Corset by Allure for instance is a corset which is designed for a woman who is extremely comfortable with her body and has no problem showing it off. The entire corset is made using a rubber like vinyl material and colored in an extremely vibrant hot pink which is sure to impress.

The top is open, which means it leaves your breasts exposed. This gives you the chance to to show off your great chest and neck. The upper half of the corset uses boning which is designed to support your breasts, giving them the natural lift that you desire, despite the fact that they are left exposed giving you the look you desire.

The entire design is based around comfort and ease of use. To achieve this goal the hooks are placed on the front which makes them incredibly easy to access. For the wearer, this means that the Kitty Corset is both easy to put on and easy to take off. On the back black strings are available. Theses strings can be tightened allowing you to achieve the maximum slimming effect possible while wearing the Kitty Corset.

Many corsets come with a g-string which is sure to add to the overall effect of an extremely sexy corset. It can be hot pink and designed for minimum coverage with maximum comfort. The G-String is made using an extremely comfortable material and designed to be comfortable to wear.

Some women are uncomfortable with the idea of wearing a g-string. For women who find this type of underwear uncomfortable the g-string can be replaced using a thong, bikini cut panties or boy shorts. It is simply a matter of finding a pair of underwear which you are comfortable with which matches the corset. Black and hot pink are great color options for anyone taking this route.

Several corset styles, and the Kitty Corset is one of them, also comes standard with detachable garters. Garters are not only functional because they help to hold up those sexy thigh highs which can complete this outfit but they also add to the wow factor which the Kitty Corset has. By simply adding an elegant pair of thigh highs and the included garters the outfit can be elevated to being an incredibly sexy outfit.

Are You Man Enough to Shop For a Gift in a Women's Lingerie Store?

Many men feel uncomfortable walking through a women's lingerie store, in an attempt to choose a sexy gift for their woman. Most certainly, there are female sales clerks eager to assist, however, unless you know what style of bra, sleepwear, or panties to buy, you will need to look at an assortment of styles and colors.

Does it embarrass you to hold up a thong or a pair of panties while you decide which color might suit your sweetheart's pleasure? Or, maybe you've entered a women's lingerie store, looked around, saw the myriad of choices, and walked out without purchasing anything.

Of course, if you're a man who doesn't embarrass easily, and you enjoy looking at all the sexy and erotic intimate apparel, then you most likely don't have a problem buying sexy lingerie in a store.

Buying panties for a woman is a pleasurable browsing adventure, but you might prefer to shop online in the privacy of your room or office. If that's the case, then you might benefit from a few quick descriptions of panty styles, which will make your online shopping trip much easier.

Thong Panties are sometimes nothing more than a little piece of fabric at the center, and are held together with a string-type appearance at the rear, or a small triangular piece of fabric at the front. Some styles of thongs use stretchable lace, but the most apparent feature of the thong is that the fabric at the rears of the thong almost disappears between the checks of the buttocks (of course, you won't see that when you're holding up the thong, but you can use your imagination if you've never seen a thong before). Besides appearing sexy, thongs give clothing the appearance that the woman isn't wearing any panties at all.

The G-string, T-back, and V-string are versions of the thong. You might also notice that some thongs are referred to as a tanga, which is what they call thongs in Brazil. Don't be discouraged; a tanga or a thong is the same thing.

Bikini panties have more coverage and usually ride low on the hips. Also, bikini panties have a fuller piece of fabric at the sides than a thong.

Another tip for choosing just the right lingerie for your woman is that sometimes online stores group panties by brand names, such as Hanky Panky, Commando, or Cosabella. Each brand can represent several styles of panties. Furthermore, some online stores provide links to the panty styles, such as, thongs, bikinis, boycut, briefs, low-rise, or high-cut panties.

The Full Brief Panties are what some men refer to as "Granny" panties since the fabric covers most of the area from the waist to the crotch. Some men find this sexy, while some women consider the full brief panties practical, especially when they know no one will them, or during that special time of the month.

Boycut Panties are similar to the full brief panties, but they don't extend all the way to the waist. Some boycut panties have patterns, lace, or are made of sheer fabric. This style of panty looks like a tight pair of boy's shorts, and has become quite popular and fashionable during recent years.

High-Cut Panties show more of the thigh, and they look very sexy. Shorter women love this style panty since it makes their legs appear longer. The high-cut panty is also known as a French-cut panty.

Whether you're ordering panties in the United States, Europe, or somewhere else in the world, most International lingerie stores have conversion charts for calculating sizes in various countries. If unsure, you can always find a conversion chart on the Internet.

In summary, if you're man enough to shop in a retail store at the mall, then enjoy your gift-buying adventure. If you're more timid, then head to your favorite online women's lingerie and panty website to check out all the latest styles and colors.

Olivia Matthews is an expert lingerie trendsetter, and she is highly regarded for her reviews. To see the various colors and styles of Hanky Panky panties, and to view the free shipping offer, she invites you to visit the http://www.pantycorner.com website.

Simple Advice For Choosing and Buying the Best Swimsuits Clearance Sale

The beginning of the weather getting warmer is usually when the start of shopping for swimwear. This is the time of year when planning for spring break, summer vacations, weekends at the beach and the opening of pools for Memorial Day causes women of all ages to start shopping around for new swimsuits. They hunt and hunt for the perfect one. No matter what your body type or body size, there is one for you!

Pudgy Belly Syndrome: Most women's main complaint is a soft pudgy belly with love handles on the hips. They spend an abundance of money on DVDs, diet food, and the gym to try and lose as many inches as they can to find the perfect women's bikini swimwear or women's one piece swimwear in time for the warm weather. If you are not able to get your stomach to the size you wish, I recommend going with a tankini style suit. This style covers the belly like a one piece, but offers the style of a two piece with a classic bikini bottom. The wonderful about a tankini separate is that you will get the full coverage on the top, while mixing and matching the bottoms to different styles.

Small vs Bigger Chest: When a smaller chest is the problem when choosing your swimsuits Halter tops is the way to go. Triangular, ruffled and bright colors are the important factors to keep in mind when choosing your halter top swimwear. Avoiding one piece swimwear would also be advised. For the larger busted woman, finding a swimsuit can be just as hard. The bigger your chest is the more support you will need. You should look for halter top swimwear with wider bands and underwire support. Choosing a solid color is also a wise choice. Swimsuits halter can also help you with the support you may need.

Plus Size Women: Just because a women is a larger size does not mean she cannot find a swimsuit and look sexy. A larger women should avoid floral or patterned swimwear. Dark colors and v-neck types are also better choices to flatter the bigger sizes. Women's one piece swimwear with tying neck straps is another perfect choice.

Shop around to find the best swimsuits clearance. Online will be the best option. Look past the large well known department stores. All you will do is end up paying for the advertising they use to draw you into buying from them. There are many of online clothes store that can offer you the same exact sexy women's swimwear, brand new for more than 65 percent off. They can offer you these prices because they are small and do not have the cost or overhead of the high end department stores.

So, I hope this information is helpful to someone. Also, I hope that you will take the time to shop around online to find the best swimsuits clearance.

Plus Size Swimsuits - The Answer to Your Plus Size Swimming Needs!

Are you larger than average and love to go to the beach or the pool? Do you want more choices when it comes to your swimwear even though you are plus sized? It is a crying shame that there has not been a better variety of plus size swimsuits to choose from, but that is all changing. Here is what you need to know to find your perfect swimsuit for this season.

The second thing to know is that you can shop online and find exactly what you want from one of many different websites. There is a huge selection of plus size swimsuits online and there are even some websites that are dedicated to just plus sized swimmers. This is a great thing because you can choose from one of hundreds of different colors and styles to wear to the beach or the pool. Plus if you get it and you don't like it you can return it for a full refund, with most stores.

It is important that you get what you want and what makes you feel comfortable when it comes to plus size swimsuits. Everybody should be able to enjoy the beach and the pool no matter what size they are and they should be able to feel comfortable doing so. Plus we all want to go to the water with a little style and now with the online shopping world you will be able to do just that. Thinning Pubic Hair By Dr. Greg Damery

Q. Since I had my hysterectomy (which was 6 years ago) and had my pubic area shaved, my hair hasn't ever grown back very thick. I am 46 years old. Is this the way it is going to be--straggly? Kay, South Dakota

A: Although you don’t describe the details of your hysterectomy, I suspect that you had your ovaries removed at the same time. What you have discovered is that the ovaries produce hormones which directly affect hair growth. Half of a woman’s testosterone comes from her ovaries. When the ovaries cease to function, either due to menopause or as a result of surgery, a woman’s testosterone level decreases. The drop in testosterone can have several affects on a woman, i.e. slower hair growth, a decrease in one’s sex drive and increased levels of fatigue. In your case, your “straggly” pubic hair is part of the new you. Rather than just accept it, you might consider adding some flair to your pubic area with style ideas from Hair Care Down There.

Ingrown Hair Advice From Dr. Damery

Q. What do you do when you constantly get ingrown hairs down there and they swell or hair keeps growing under the skin? Would you know how to cure or prevent the reoccurrence? Brandi H.

A: What you are describing are commonly called razor bumps. These are raised, sometimes inflamed, areas which occur one or two days after shaving. Razor bumps occur because the hair is shaved so close to the skin that the cut end of the hair is actually below skin level. Without the hair shaft protruding through the skin, the skin will sometimes close over the hair’s pore. With further hair growth, and no pore to pass through, the hair pushes the skin upward resulting in a tiny bump, a “razor bump”. Sometimes a cut hair may curl before exiting the skin, resulting in a red inflamed area, which many also call a razor bump, although technically this is more of an “ingrown hair”. In either case, the cause is the same. The hair is cut short and lies below skin level.

One trick to help prevent razor bumps is to shave in the same direction that the hair grows. This works because shaving in the direction of hair growth leaves the hair longer and often the hair shaft is left protruding through the skin. The downside is that you will feel a fine stubble after shaving, since the hair is left a bit longer.

Another idea is to use a good moisturizing lotion. You might want to try the Bikini Shaving formulas offered by Hair Care Down There. They have been exclusively created to address just the problem you are talking about.

Tankini, Bandini, or Thong, Oh My!

Choose the Right Bikini for Summer

In 1946, Louis Reard, an engineer – and a Frenchman, of course! - fashioned a two-piece women’s swimsuit from 30 inches of fabric. Reard’s rival in bikini design, Jacques Helm, was actually the first to create the iconic two-piece swimsuit of the 20th century. Helm called his design the “atome” in a nod to the smallest particle in the world known at the time. A marketing genius, Reard introduced his skimpy two-piece design five days after the United States began atomic tests in the Bikini Atoll and named it “bikini” to suggest that it would have the same explosive impact on society as an A-bomb.

The bikini is a women’s two-piece swimsuit that covers the breast and groin areas. It was considered risqué when it first appeared in 1946, but the two-piece design was actually a throwback to very ancient times. Wikipedia cites the earliest form of a bikini appearing in the Chalcolithic Era (3500 BCE to 1700BCE). Bikinis appear in ancient Roman mosaics and murals, suggesting they were popular as swimming costumes among Roman women. Archaeologists have found Minoan wall paintings (circa 1600 BCE) showing a two-piece design very similar to the modern bikini, and women wearing bikinis appear on ancient Greek urns, ancient Sicilian floor mosaics, and statues from Pompeii.

Bikinis were accepted as mainstream swimwear fashion on the French Riviera long before being embraced by the public in the United States. The bikini was introduced to the U.S. in 1947, but its scandalous status remained in force well into the 1950s. Many American cities even passed laws to prohibit the wearing of a bikini in public. In 1957, Modern Girl magazine stated “It is hardly necessary to waste words over the so-called bikini since it is inconceivable that any girl with tact and decency would ever wear such a thing." American women didn’t really jump on the bikini bandwagon until the late 1960s with the start of the so-called Sexual Revolution. Since that time, the bikini and its stylish variations have become the most popular swimsuit style in the U.S.

Because there are so many variations in bikini design, it helps to be familiar with the available styles before going shopping. Be aware, too, that your body shape and your level of self-confidence will also have an impact on the style you ultimately select.

Bikini Styles

The following bikini glossary provides basic descriptions of the many types of bikinis currently on the market.

String bikini – This classic, skimpy style features four strategically placed triangles connected by strings.

Tankini – A tank-style top and a traditional, string, or thong bottom.

Bandini – A strapless tube or bandeau top combined with a regular bikini bottom.

Camikini – A camisole top that will support larger breasts combined with any type of bikini bottom.

Thong – A bikini top with a bottom that covers the groin with a small piece of fabric connected by strings on the sides and between the buttocks.

Halter bikini – A top with a strap that circles the neck and attaches to the bodice combined with a traditional bikini bottom.

Micro bikini – A string bikini top with tiny triangles that cover the nipples and little more, with a g-string bottom.

Monokini – A skimpy bikini connected with a strip of fabric that runs from top to bottom or a bikini bottom worn without a top.

Sports Bikini – Worn by women who love sports, it features a top that is as supportive as a bra and a traditional bikini bottom.

Seekini – Any type of bikini that is “see-through” and usually can be worn only on certain beaches.

Bikini Materials, Colors, and Care

Armed with this knowledge of the most popular bikini styles, you can now move on to consider the type of material your bikini is made of, its color options, and the care it will require. The best selection of bikini styles and style options can be found by visiting a regular brick-and-mortar store or an online shop that lets you mix and match tops and bottoms for the best fit. The ability to combine tops and bottoms also lets you be creative in using solid colors and/or patterns to develop your own personal bikini style.

Bikini Grooming

And don’t forget the all-important need to groom your bikini hair to match the type of bikini you plan to wear. Select grooming products made especially for the pubic area, so you won’t suffer from ingrown hairs or rashes. Then you can be confident that you’ll look your fabulous best in your new bikini!

Ten Tips For A Sexy Valentine's Day Gift Your Lover Will Never Forget!

Los Angeles, CA, February 6, 2009—Valentine's Day is just around the corner and men and women all over the world are wondering what kind of gift to give that leaves a lasting impression. Hair Care Down There® offers these ten terrific tips for creating a sexy and romantic Valentine's Day party for two with a sexy gift that keeps on giving. Surprise your favorite girl with this special “shaving night” evening.

1. Make arrangements to be alone at home with your lover this Valentine's Day or make a reservation at a nice hotel. Don’t let her know what the “real” plans are.

2. Purchase your supplies. Valentine's Day decorations and flowers are nice but bubble bath, massage oil, candles, a bikini grooming shaving kit from Hair Care Down There and alcoholic or/non-alcoholic bubbly are a must for this party.

3. On the big day decorate the bedroom and bathroom, arrange and light the candles in both rooms, pour the drinks and start the party by running a hot bath with a sexy, scented bubble bath.

4. Choose your favorite romantic music and make sure it can be heard in the bedroom and bathroom.

5. Arrange the pubic hair shaving kit where it can be reached from the bathtub and invite your companion to join you for a nice long soak in the tub. A tip—be sure to review the kit instructions before this “Valentine's Day Shaving Party” so you know what you’re doing. Gently scrub each other and sip your drinks.

6. After time in the bath, invite your lover to indulge in a special “shaving service.” Use a towel on the bathroom floor or on the bed.

Matching the Tummy Tuck To Your Bikini Line

Like all structures on the body, things change with age, gravity, and the general wear and tear of life. Nowhere is this more apparent than on the female abdomen. Puberty, pregnancy, and weight change all play potential havoc with the smooth flat abdomen that most women have in youth. Pregnancy is the biggest culprit here, stretching the skin through expansion and contraction and leaving scars from c-sections.

The c-section scar shrinks and pulls in, creating a lower abdominal bulge as the loose skin ends up overhanging the scar. Often stretch marks extend upward from the scar and around the bellybutton as well. Unfortunately, no amount of dieting and exercise will shrink this skin excess and many women can attest to that observation. Abdominoplasty, otherwise known as a tummy tuck, will get rid of this problem but a traditional or full tummy tuck may be a bigger procedure than many women desire to undergo. The long hip to hip scar from a full tummy tuck may not be justified given the smaller amount of skin overhang that exists. In addition, a full tummy tuck requires the belly button to be repositioned at the skin level resulting in a scar around it. Despite my best efforts at making belly button scars, I find most of them to be somewhat visible and not completely normal in appearance.

Another option is a smaller tummy tuck version, which I call the Bikini Line Tummy Tuck. With this approach, the length of the resulting scar is shorter but, more importantly, it stays very low. (therefore the name Bikini Line) The scar is put very low as the amount of skin removed is less than a full tummy tuck and the cutout is done below the level of the belly button. This allows the initial incision of the cut out to be put as low as possible and does not place a lot of tension on the final skin closure which can cause it to be pulled up higher. (as occurs in a full tummy tuck) In addition, no scar results around the belly button since as it is repositioned lower from underneath the skin before the final skin closure.

While not every woman who has overhanging skin and fat on their abdomen is a candidate for the Bikini Line Tummy Tuck, about half of the women that I see are. If the women is not overweight with a small lower abdominal pooch, with or without a c-section scar, she may be an ideal candidate. A scar that fits inside the bikini line but still allows a flat abdomen and a scarless belly button is the result.
